STYLE TIPS

A parka should be fairly loose-fitting with a base shape that hangs from the shoulders into an A-line cut. “Since the point of a parka is its take on military-style, going too slim or tight-fitting doesn’t do the job,” says stylist Luke McDonald.

Remember to also keep room for layering in mind when considering size.

👉 COLOUR
Always choose a colour that suits your skin tone. Think warm vs cool colours, light vs dark colours. Always go in harmony with your own skin. If you have bright eyes and clear skin, go for a shinier fabric. A matte fabric would suit those of us with softer features better.

👉 LENGTH
Here are those ideal length lines for perfect proportions again:- at the hip bone- a hand’s width below the belly button- where your thumbs end when you stand up straight with your arms at your sides- in the middle of your knee

👉 POCKETS
Look for a jacket with pocket placements that work best for your body shape. If you have a pear body shape, look for a parka jacket with as little as possible detail on the hip area. If you have a larger bust area, avoid pockets and detail in that area.

If you feel uncomfortable in a parka jacket, rather opt for a different style jacket, or even a knit. Always remain true to your personal style.
